GeForce NOW is losing access to several popular games despite NVIDIA’s new opt-in policy

NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW is one of the earliest cloud-based game streaming services allowing users to play demanding PC games on any device without a game-ready PC setup. The service left beta back in February 2020 and since then, NVIDIA has stayed true to its promise of adding new games to its catalog every week including ones from successful game publishers such as Epic Games. However, NVIDIA has also witnessed many game publishers including Activision Blizzard and 2K Games pull their entire library of games as their titles were added to the service without consent.

So, back in May, NVIDIA switched to an opt-in policy instead of opt-out for GeForce NOW, allowing indie developers and publishers to join the service. GeForce NOW’s GM, Phil Eisler, also added that games would be removed from the service if publishers do not opt-in voluntarily. Although this move seemingly favors developers and publishers, many popular games are still being removed from NVIDIA’s portfolio of cloud-based games.

A recent post on NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW forums informed the community that the following titles will be leaving on the mentioned dates as per the publishers’ request:

  • Leaving July 3
    • Saint’s Row The Third Remastered
  • Leaving July 31
    • ACE COMBAT 7: SKIES UNKNOWN
    • DARK SOULS: REMASTERED
    • DARK SOULS II
    • DARK SOULS II: SCHOLAR OF THE FIRST SIN
    • DARK SOULS III
    • SOULCALIBUR VI
    • TEKKEN 7

The step is definitely going to add to users’ frustration but it also kindles the possibility of games returning to the platform with proper support and incentives for the developers. In fact, some games are also returning to GeForce NOW this week and the list includes, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and SCUM.

Further, some new games that are being added to GeForce NOW are Trackmania (via Epic Games Store and Uplay), Satisfactory (via Steam and Epic Games Store), Hardspace: Shipbreaker (via Steam), and Danger Scavenger ( via Steam).
